Job Description: Perioperative Assistant

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The role requires continuous improvement in quality and safety in all aspects of the position.

Within a client and family-centered care model and under general supervision, the Perioperative Assistant is a member of an integrated care team. Responsibilities include:

1. Transporting and escorting clients to and from required areas using stretchers and wheelchairs.
2. Moving, setting up, and positioning a variety of equipment within the operating room suites.
3. Assisting nursing and technical staff with lifting, positioning, and transferring clients.
4. Maintaining supplies for designated areas.
5. Cleaning equipment and storage areas as required within a high-volume operating room environment.
6. Picking up and delivering equipment, supplies, and other items as assigned.
7. Operating a facsimile and/or photocopier as required.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
