Job summary

A regional healthcare provider in Halifax is seeking a permanent full-time perfusionist to support cardiac surgery. The ideal candidate should have a degree in Perfusion Technology, relevant certifications, and the capability to work under pressure. Recruitment Incentives

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager (HSM), the staff perfusionist and The Department of Perfusion Services (Perioperative Care Division) supports patients undergoing Cardiac surgery through the provision of cardiovascular perfusion services at the Halifax Infirmary (adult), and the Isaak Walton Killam Health Center (pediatrics). The department provides cardiopulmonary bypass for approximately 1100 cases per year.

Perfusion services also provides support for ECMO, Sugarbaker procedures, ventricular assist devices, balloon pumps and blood recovery systems for a variety of procedures including liver transplant. Support is provided at both the adult and paediatric sites.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Perfusion Technology (students currently enrolled in an accredited program are strongly encouraged to apply).
  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion, or Canadian certification eligible (with a requirement to obtain this certification within the first two years of employment)
  • Certification with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion with proof of eligibility for Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion prior to employment (Canadian certification must beobtained within the first two years of employment)
  • Possession of a recognized degree in a science or health care discipline an asset
  • 2 years of clinical perfusion experience an asset, but recent graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass procedures is an asset
  • Must be able to work under pressure and cope in emergency situations while demonstrating strong teamwork skills
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of self-development in ensuring current and competent service
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in research and quality assurance development
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Permanent full-time position, 75 hours bi-weekly
  • 24/7 coverage (including on-site and/or on-call)
Compensation and Benefits

$52.93 - $66.70 Hourly
