Job summary

Scotiabank is seeking a Performance Measurement Analyst in Toronto to contribute to the Scotia Global Asset Management team. The role focuses on calculating performance returns, producing detailed reports, and supporting the rollout of performance tools across funds and portfolios.

The ideal candidate has a strong analytical background, experience with Power BI, and a track record of delivering accurate data and insightful commentary for senior management and institutional clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical discipline such as Mathematics, Commerce, Finance, or Economics is an asset.
  • CIPM/FRM is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in performance reporting, analytics, or investment operations is preferred.
  • Previous experience within the mutual fund industry.
  • Experience using Power BI for reporting and dashboard development is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to data quality and accuracy.
  • Strong and proactive problem-solver with an ability to work independently and prioritize tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate and validate performance returns for all funds, for monthly measurement, monitoring, and performance reporting through Power BI visuals and other reporting tools.
  • Participate in the implementation process and roll-out of investment performance measurement tool.
  • Produce performance reports that include analysis of returns, risk, added value, and portfolio characteristics for internally managed and sub-advised portfolios.
  • Provide return data and portfolio characteristics information to institutional sales for marketing purposes.
  • Prepare timely investment commentary and performance reporting for monthly and quarterly reports on mutual funds, ETFs, Private Equity, Private Credit, Private Wealth, and Institutional Clients.
  • Collect and process investment and accounting data from various sources, ensure data accuracy, investigate discrepancies, correct, and confirm data.
  • Liaise with Portfolio Managers and Accounting to resolve discrepancies in returns.
  • Investigate and document discrepancies such as unexplained market value changes or incorrect feeds.
  • Test to ensure accuracy of information used to calculate performance and benchmarks using SQL queries and data processing systems.
  • Respond to regular and ad hoc requests and contribute to developing automated, scalable data manipulation and reporting tools.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentation materials and performance commentary for senior management.

Purpose:

The Performance Measurement Analyst contributes to the overall success of Scotia Global Asset Management, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives, ensuring all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
