Job summary

The Township of Oro-Medonte is seeking a People and Safety Coordinator to lead health and safety programs, wellbeing, inclusion and engagement initiatives in a municipal setting.

You will coordinate recruitment, safety training, and compliance with OHSA and WHMIS while partnering with department managers and the Director of People and Culture to strengthen a safe and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and training facilitation skills.
  • Experience in project management and coordinating multiple programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the research and development of internal Community of Belonging and Wellness programs, including project plans and implementation.
  • Coordinate the full recruitment process: postings, screening, interviews, background checks and offers.
  • Facilitate Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, training and inspections with Co-Chairs.
  • Conduct annual safety program audits and develop new processes and policies.
  • Coordinate with department managers to verify SOPs and renew certifications on time.
  • Collaborate with the Director of People and Culture on safety training needs assessments and planning.

AbouttheRole

ReportingtotheDirector,PeopleandCulture,thePeopleandSafetyCoordinatorwillcoordinatevariouspeopleprogramsandleadsafety,wellness,inclusion,andengagementprograms.

Highlightsofkeyresponsibilitiesinclude:

  • LeadtheresearchanddevelopmentofinternalCommunityofBelongingprogramaswellasthedevelopmentoftheWellnessprogram,includingprojectplansandprogramimplementation;
  • Coordinatethefullrecruitmentprocess,includingjobpostings,resumescreening,interviews,backgroundchecks,andemploymentoffers;

  • WorkincompliancewiththeOccupationalHealthandSafetyAct,WHMIS,applicablelegislation,regulations,statutes,anddepartmentalpolicies,procedures,practicesandoperationalguidelines,andperformsafeworkpractices.

WhatyouBring

Theidealcandidatepossessesstrongknowledgeofhealthandsafety,employmentandlabourrelationslegislation,standards,andbestpracticeswithaminimumofthree(3)yearsofrelatedexperiencewithinafull-serviceindustry,municipalorpublicsectorisastrongasset.Additionally,thesuccessfulcandidatewillhaveadegreeordiplomainHumanResources,LabourRelations,HealthandSafetyorarelateddisciplineandholdorwillingtoobtainaCertifiedHumanResources(CHRP/CHRL)and/orCanadianRegisteredSafetyProfessional(CRSP)designations.

Youhaveexperienceinprojectmanagementfocusedonhealthandsafetyandtrainingprograms,aswellasstrongandclearoralcommunicationintrainingfacilitation,providingdirectionandenablingeffectivelanguagetofosteraninclusiveandsafeenvironment.
