Job summary

Bird Construction is seeking a People & Culture Student for organizational development, based in Calgary. You will support employee engagement, culture initiatives, DE&I programs and talent management while working closely with the People & Culture team.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a post‑secondary program in HR, Organizational Development, Business, Communications, Marketing, or related field.

• Strong communication and content creation skills; able to write, design and present information clearly.

Job description

People & Culture Student - Organizational Development

Our internships and Co-ops are designed to provide you with a business relevant project that will allow you to independently manage your own area of responsibility, while receiving support from an assigned Supervisor and Technical Mentor. We’ll help you discover your strengths and development areas in a challenging, fun, and supportive work environment. Projects are scoped in alignment with your term length, and typically focus on a current construction project. We are seeking a student to join us for a 4 or 8 month co‑op position starting in January 2027. This position will be based out of Calgary, Alberta.

What You Will Be Working On As a People & Culture Student (Organizational Development), you will support programs and initiatives that shape the employee experience at Bird. Working closely with the People & Culture team, you will gain hands‑on experience in employee engagement, culture, inclusion, talent management, communications, and program coordination while helping bring People & Culture initiatives to life across the organization.

Culture & Employee Engagement

Assist with initiatives that strengthen our workplace culture and engagement, including supporting the delivery and follow‑up of the annual organization‑wide engagement survey. Help coordinate communications, activities, and resources that encourage participation and share survey outcomes.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Assist with initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, including supporting employee resource groups, awareness campaigns, events, & communications that help advance DE&I across the organization.

Performance and Talent Management

Support the People & Culture team with materials and processes that guide performance management, career development, and the annual talent review. Help prepare resources and tools to support managers and employees as they participate in these programs.

Program Coordination & Collaboration

Work with members of the People & Culture team to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of programs and initiatives, while gaining exposure to different functional areas and approaches within People & Culture.

Communications & Content Creation

Support the development of creative communications that bring employee experiences, organizational initiatives, and moments that matter to life. Create and coordinate written, visual, and digital content across a variety of platforms and channels to share stories, raise awareness, encourage participation, and showcase the impact of People & Culture programs and initiatives.

Who We Need On Our Team

• You are currently enrolled in a post‑secondary program in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, Communications, Marketing, Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
• Interest in employee experience, organizational culture, talent management, communications and DE&I.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
• Organized and dependable, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Strong communication skills, including writing, storytelling, presentation development, and content creation.
• Curious, proactive, and eager to learn, with a willingness to contribute ideas and take on new challenges.
• Experience creating digital, visual, written, and presentation‑based content, as well as working with data and reporting, using tools such as Canva, SharePoint, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft 365 applications, and Workday is considered an asset.
