Job summary

The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope is seeking a Peer Support Mentor for an onsite, full-time role in London, Ontario. The position focuses on providing individualized client support, facilitating activities, and collaborating with counsellors to address client needs.

The role reports to the Withdrawal Management Manager and requires valid vulnerable sector screening. Hours are 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with a temporary contract ending March 31, 2027.

Qualifications

• Consumer/survivor of the addictions/mental health system with active recovery for at least 3 years.
• Peer Certification / Training is an asset.
• Post-secondary studies in psychosocial rehabilitation or social services are an asset.
• Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized support to clients aimed at maintaining and improving their social, interpersonal and life skills.
• Facilitate daily activities with individual clients and accompany clients to scheduled functions within the Centre.
• Assist Counsellors in developing strategies and interventions for client needs.
• Refer any client issues of a serious nature, or a client in crisis occurring while on shift.
• Give verbal or written reports to the counsellor to be included in client files.
• Make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the Withdrawal Management Program Manager.
