Opportunity

We have an opening for (1-2) Full-time Consulting General Pediatricians to join our team. Pediatricians at Brightshores-Owen Sound Hospital provide on-call support, inpatient service for pediatric and neonatal patients, and hospital-based outpatient consultations and follow-up to a wide catchment area of over 170,000 residents and more than 2 million short-stay visitors each year.

Brightshores-Owen Sound Hospital has a Level 2b Intensive Care Nursery that routinely admits neonates 32+ weeks, with the ability to provide non-invasive ventilation, TPN and emergency care as needed. We are well supported by our colleagues and units in tertiary care at the Childrens Hospital London Health Sciences Centre. We have 5 dedicated pediatric ward beds, with privileges to admit pediatric patients to the ICU. We also deliver well-newborn care to over 800 babies born in Owen Sound per year. Additionally, there are 2-pediatric mental health beds that are managed by a full-time Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist. We are also a teaching program affiliated with both Western and McMaster Universities with opportunity to be involved in teaching pediatric medicine for medical residents.

Job Requirements:

1. Provide comprehensive pediatric care for a wide range of pediatric conditions, including medical, developmental, and mental health concerns to in- and out-patient pediatric patients.
2. Participate in an outpatient Pediatric Diabetes Clinic, supported by a Diabetes Nurse Educator, Dietician and Social Worker.
3. Participate in Pediatric Hospitalist and Well-Newborn coverage 1 in every 5 weeks for pediatric and neonatal inpatients.
4. Provide call coverage, with 24h home-call shifts shared equally between 5 full-time pediatricians (with hope for expansion of the group to 7 FTE within the next 2 years), currently averaging 6-7 call days per month (including 1 in 5 weekend calls). Call typically includes ER consults, pediatric hospital admissions, attendance at deliveries for high risk newborns (with RT and RN support), Level II NICU admissions, and phone consults with providers and ER physicians in the region.
5. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care.
6. Optional participation in teaching and mentoring of residents and medical students.
7. Optional participation in training courses within the Brightshores Corporation, such as NRP or PALS, with instructor status.
8. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Interested candidates will ideally hold applicable FRCPC designation and an independent license to practice in Ontario. Up-to-date PALS and NRP are strongly encouraged.

Compensation

Funding through Alternate Funding Plan, Fee-for-Service Billings, Ministry of Health On-Call Coverage (HOCC) Program, and other support - Relocation supports and other recruitment incentives available.
