Salary : MSA Band F (Steps 1-8) : $33.605 - $48.887 per hour. $61,162 - $88,975 per annum (Based on 35 hours per week).

MacEwan University is seeking experienced Peace Officers for multiple, full-time continuing opportunity with the Security Services department.
As a Peace Officer, your role involves adhering to relevant legislation, university policies, the criminal code, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and all applicable provincial and federal laws. Your primary focus will be to ensure a safe learning environment on campus and to protect MacEwan's assets. You will be accountable to the standards set forth in the Peace Officer Act through your provincial appointment, as well as to all MacEwan policies.
This position requires extensive foot patrols in and outside buildings, climbing stairs, and dealing with physical confrontation. As a Peace Officer, you will engage and perform pro-active community duties aligned with Community Response and S.A.R.A models.
Key responsibilities include :
- Responding to alarms, issues with plant systems, emergency telephones and use CCTV (camera) systems;
- Providing information to staff, students, contractors, patrons, and visitors on request or pro-actively when noticing a person in need;
- Performing access control duties including but not limited to door unlocks and lock-up, notify or assist removing non-staff to leave the buildings, perform building checks (interior) to insure there are no intruders;
- Conducting investigations of reported incidents where there is a suspected breach of university policy that will include obtaining witness or complainant statements, photograph scenes, gather physical evidence, protect any crime scene for police response, make detailed notes in notebook, and enter all information into MacEwan's incident management software;
- Conducting shift debriefs with the on-coming shift members to ensure effective communication is provided to alert shift activity or incidents that may require further attention / work or to make the on-coming shift members aware of activity or risks that may be expected;
- Providing counter service at the Security Services office that includes issuing keys, contractor passes, recording lost and found complaints, tagging and storing found property, receiving complaints, assisting clients with EPS on-line reporting, answering the telephone, and managing requests for service;
- Ensuring all material handed over to external police agencies comply with university FOIP procedures;
- Using the 10-codes and the phonetic alphabet to report all activities and requests over the radio system while on patrol or responding to a call for service;
- Responding to calls for medical assistance by providing first aid, maintaining the safety of the person, granting access for EMS / fire / police and supporting evacuations during emergencies;
- Initiating CPIC checks and making the determination to arrest or release;
- Supporting the development of written work instructions for Security Services; and
- Assisting in training / educating staff / students on prevention initiatives and safety programs promoted by the university.

- The ability to perform and make critical, quick decisions in emergency situations;
- The ability to multitask under pressure;
- Knowledge of procedures (including safety procedures), regulations, policy, emergency response plans, and the building / campus maps; and
- Knowledge of telecommunication systems including procedures, dispatch 10 code, phonetic alphabet and any standard abbreviations used by the university.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a police / peace officer program recognized by the Government of Alberta that complies with being appointed / authorized to be a community peace officer in the Province of Alberta.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a Peace Officer level 1.
- Current First Aid and CPR-C Certificate.
- ICS100 and ICS200
- Possess a valid P.A.R.E. (Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation) certificate.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Requirements
- This position can only be held by an authorized appointment by the Province of Alberta. Any cancellation / removal or expiry of that authorization would be cause for termination.
- This position involves rotating shift work, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
- This position requires the ability to conduct extensive foot patrols.
- A valid Class 5 driver's license. The successful incumbent may be required to provide a satisfactory current Driver’s Abstract.
- The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check.
