Varsity Tutors is seeking an experienced PE Civil Structural tutor for its Live Learning Platform. You will deliver personalized online instruction, tailor coaching to candidate needs, and leverage platform tools to help students master structural design concepts.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of PE Civil Structural examination content (load combinations, member design, code references).

• Ability to adapt instruction to individual learning needs and styles.

What We Look For In a PE - Civil - Structural Tutor

• Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of PE Civil Structural examination content covering structural analysis, steel design, concrete design, wood design, masonry, seismic design, and structural engineering codes including ACI 318, AISC 360, and ASCE 7. Ability to explain load combinations, member design, and connection detailing while preparing civil engineers for the structural depth portion of the PE Civil examination.
• Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching structural member design, load analysis, and code reference navigation for PE Civil Structural examination. Guides students through designing beams, columns, and connections in steel and concrete, calculating lateral forces, and applying building code provisions. Emphasizes efficient use of design manuals and reference codes under timed examination conditions and connecting theory to practical structural design.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with PE Civil Structural depth examination and common challenges such as navigating multiple design codes simultaneously, performing seismic analysis calculations, and managing time across complex design problems. Adapts instruction using NCEES practice examinations, code reference exercises, and structural design problems to support PE candidates preparing for the civil structural depth examination.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
