Reporting to the Payroll Tax Director, the Payroll Tax Analyst, Canada will be responsible for assisting with day-to-day payroll tax payments and activities, troubleshooting tax issues with internal and external clients and stakeholders, and ad hoc duties and special projects including research, system testing and implementation, process documentation, and updating tax rates on an ongoing basis. This position requires a highly organized, analytical and motivated individual that can manage multiple assignments while producing accurate and timely results.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collectively collaborates with team to proactively monitor compliance and timely tax filing and reporting to government authorities.
  • Maintains tax rates and ensures that calculations in all our Payroll Systems are accurate.
  • Ensures withholding, year-end tax documents and e-filing compliance as mandated by CRA, revenue Quebec, and other tax jurisdictions.
  • Resolves complex tax questions, special requests, issues, and tasks by taking independent actions, with a high degree of initiative to research the answers.
  • Oversees the aging analysis for Canadian tax transactions, including the timely submission of amended returns to the appropriate taxing agencies.
  • Assists Payroll Tax Director identify procedures and process improvements to continually increase the quality, efficiency and overall effectiveness of the department.
  • Assists in the management of year-end reporting and compliance.
  • Provides support and/or back up as necessary for Sr. Payroll Tax Coordinators.
  • Miscellaneous research projects and special projects as assigned by the department’s management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications

  • Significant analytical and problem-solving skills required. Attention to details a must.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, Access and MS Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills including experience with reconciliations between accounts payable sub-ledger and general ledger.
  • Experience with large enterprise financial systems, preferably Oracle Financials (specifically the Accounts Payable module).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience (or equivalent) in a Canadian Payroll or Payroll Tax processing role, preferably associated with a Payroll Provider or within a Finance department.

Special Work Conditions

  • Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.

Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. The compensation range for this position is: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour.
