About the role

We have an exciting new fixed term role for a Payroll Specialist to join our Finance and Accounting department. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely process of full-cycle payrolls, benefit reconciliations, stock-based compensation, and month-end accounting.

What you'll do

  • Processing U.S. and Canadian payroll in a timely fashion to ensure employees are paid on time and accurately. Analyze and verify documentation submitted for payment of employees while adhering to strict timelines and ensuring compliance with legislated regulation in the U.S. and Canada
  • Manage payroll administration for new hires and employee status changes to ensure complete and accurate data changes
  • Balance payroll based on year-end calendar and remit by defined due date
  • Ability to calculate pay for multi-state/multi-province payroll and payroll taxes
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all payroll-related transactions such as Record of Employment (ROE’s), W2s, T4’s, terminations, etc.
  • Provide administration support to D-Wave equity programs and benefits including enrollment, removal, etc.
  • Process benefit reconciliations while identifying irregularities and inefficiencies
  • Ensure SOX compliance and compliance with provincial/state wage and labour laws regarding payment
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments when investigating or responding to queries regarding payroll
  • Register state payroll tax withholding and U.I. accounts
  • Prepare payroll related period-end and ad hoc journal entries, as required

About You

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP)) certification ishighly desirable
  • 3 or more years of experience processing Canadian and US payroll
  • Experience using ADP and QTS payroll systems or similar software
  • Knowledge of Federal, State/Provincial, and Local payroll policies and procedures
  • Ability to perform complex payroll calculations with speed and accuracy
  • Experience working with various payroll systems and the ability to utilize MS Excel effectively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to payroll information
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
