Qualifications

  • 3-5 years payroll experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of CRA payroll rules and year-end reporting.
  • Canadian Payroll Association certification preferred.

The Payroll Specialist will coordinate and administer payroll services for Ontario Health atHome in the North East area, with potential to support other regions as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing bi-weekly payroll for union and non-union staff, ensuring compliance with legislation, contracts, policies
  • Verifying and processing time reports and adjustments for payroll accuracy
  • Collaborating with HR on data verification and process integration
  • Ensuring payroll accuracy and timely processing
  • Handling employee expense and mileage claims in coordination with Accounts Payable
  • Managing employee status changes, leaves, and updates in payroll system
  • Configuring and maintaining payroll system modules
  • Calculating and processing compensation changes, retro payments, and pay adjustments
  • Processing terminations and issuing final payments
  • Serving as payroll SME, providing training and support to staff and management
  • Submitting Records of Employment to Service Canada
  • Transmitting electronic deposits and year-end reporting (T4, T4A, T4, pension adjustments)
  • Preparing payroll remittances and manual cheque documentation as needed
  • Maintaining confidentiality and security of payroll data
  • Performing month-end journal entries and reconciliations
  • Generating payroll reports and statistical summaries
  • Following safety and privacy protocols
  • Performing other payroll-related duties as required

Minimum qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma in business, accounting, or payroll
  • 3-5 years payroll experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Knowledge of CRA payroll rules, year-end reporting, EHT, WSIB, etc.
  • Understanding of collective agreements and employment legislation
  • Experience with payroll systems (Quadrant preferred), report generation, and spreadsheet development
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Fluent in English; additional languages a plus
  • COVID-19 vaccination required

Preferred qualifications:

  • Canadian Payroll Association certification
  • Experience in healthcare or public sector
  • Fluency in French or other languages
