Payroll Specialist

The location in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Payroll Specialist. This job is full-time temporary.

Overview: Reporting to the Senior Manager, Payroll Operations – North America, your role will consist of producing, by collaborating with the coordination team, the pay of all unionized and non-unionized employees and retirees of all Paper Excellence Group’s divisions in a timely and accurate manner ensuring quality of information generated.

Carry out activities relating to Canadian and US payroll production within the required deadlines in accordance with fiscal regulations and within policies and procedures.

  1. Enter data for Family Support and garnishment.
  2. Reconcile payroll records and solve discrepancies in collaboration with the Finance department, if needed.
  3. Balance and prepare payments for various vendors and governmental agencies.
  4. Produce various monthly reports.
  5. Respond to requests from internal and external clients.
  6. Participate in the year-end activities for the Canadian and US payroll and ensure accurate and timely processing.
  7. Participate in the integration, the testing, and the implementation of payroll system enhancements, interfaces and tax updates.
  8. Participate in special projects as required.
  9. Sound judgment.
  10. Strong ability to prioritize.
  11. Good team player.
  12. Ability to execute responsibilities with a minimum amount of supervision.

Your profile:

  1. College diploma in administration or accounting.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar position.
  3. Experience with payroll for employees living in another province or state.
  4. Experience with self-processing a volume of 400 employees or more.
  5. Strong experience with Microsoft Office Software, particularly with Excel.
  6. Experience with unionized payroll an asset.
  7. Experience with T4/R1 and W2 summary production an asset.
  8. Experience with DAS remittances and tax fundings an asset.
  9. Experience with third-party remittances such as CNESST, WSIB or EHT an asset.
  10. Member of the Canadian Payroll Association or the American Payroll Association is an asset.
  11. Experience with a major payroll software application as well as knowledge of the ADP system will be considered strong asset.
  12. Experience with American payroll is an asset.
  13. Good knowledge of payroll rules.
