Job summary

The City of Waterloo is seeking a Payroll Project Lead to support a Trimble Unity Maintain implementation and related Labour/Time & Labour configurations in PeopleSoft. This role reports to the Manager of Payroll and Accounting and requires collaboration with internal teams and external consultants.

Ideal candidates will have payroll/HRSIS experience, a current Payroll Manager certification, strong Excel/Word skills, and a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a confidential,

Qualifications

  • Two-year post-secondary education in Business Administration/Accounting or related discipline and at least five years’ experience in payroll/HRIS configuration.
  • Current Payroll Manager certification from the Canadian Payroll Association.
  • Thorough knowledge of legislated payroll requirements and deductions, taxable benefits, pensions, etc.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and Word and payroll processes in a computerized environment.
  • Experience configuring HRIS systems and processes; familiarity with PeopleSoft including PeopleSoft Query and SQL.

Responsibilities

  • Act as project lead in supporting the Trimble Unity Maintain Implementation project.
  • Attend meetings with external consultants and internal staff to align with CUPE collective agreement and PeopleSoft configurations.
  • Design and configure new settings for Labour records with Time and Labour/Payroll requirements.
  • Coordinate testing of new configurations to ensure proper processing on the PeopleSoft side.
  • Develop and document business processes to support Labour Record Capturing for Maximo Mobile post go-live.
  • Research and document current casual hourly staff time capture and explore self-entry rollout during ESRI gaps.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will do:

Reporting to the Manager, Payroll and Accounting, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Act as project lead in supporting the Trimble Unity Maintain Implementation project.
  • Attend meetings with external consultants and internal staff to ensure full understanding and consideration of the City’s Collective Agreement with CUPE and current configurations/requirements of PeopleSoft in the design, configuration and implementation of the Trimble Unity Maintain system.
  • Participate in and lead the functional design of new configuration for capturing CUPE Labour records with the requirements of PeopleSoft Time and Labour/Payroll for both productive and non-productive hours.
  • Coordinate Testing of new configuration to ensure records can be properly processed on the PeopleSoft side.
  • Development and documentation of ongoing business processes to support the Labour Record Capturing component of the Maximo Mobile project post go live for operational departments, Payroll and HR.
  • Research and document existing time capture of casual hourly staff and explore rolling out self entry to more staff during gaps in the ESRI Project.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
  • A two (2) year post-secondary education in Business Administration/Accounting or a related discipline with a minimum five (5) years’ experience in a payroll and/or HRIS configuration environment; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • A current Payroll Manager certification from the Canadian Payroll Association.
  • Thorough knowledge of legislated payroll requirements and best practices regarding deductions, taxable benefits, pensions, etc.
  • Advanced skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word as well as payroll processes in a computerized environment.
  • Experiencing configuring HRIS systems and processes.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft including PeopleSoft Query and/or SQL.
  • Experience working with HR, Payroll and other business operations teams to develop and implement solutions to enhance efficiencies and performance.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy is critical to success.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly confidential environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that allow you to interact effectively with staff, customers and other partners.
