Position Summary

The Payroll Data Entry Clerk plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll at JIBC. With a focus on payroll data entry, this position involves reviewing and processing various payroll-related forms while staying up to date with government regulations and internal policies. In addition to payroll duties, the role supports departmental goals through effective collaboration and participation in process improvement initiatives. This position is key to fostering a seamless payroll experience for all employees and contributes to the overall success of the Payroll Services team.

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for accurate and timely processing of payroll data entry and employee records. This role involves reviewing and processing payroll-related forms, such as timesheets and records of leave, in accordance with government regulations, collective agreements, and benefit contracts. It ensures that all payroll data is accurately entered for each pay period and that confidential employee files are maintained. Effective communication with various divisions is essential to obtain missing information and ensure payroll accuracy. Knowledge of CRA payroll regulations, BCGEU Collective Agreement, and BC Employment Standards Act is required to support payroll compliance.

In addition to payroll processing, the Payroll Clerk collaborates closely with Payroll Representatives, the Senior Payroll Representative, and the People and Culture department to support seamless payroll operations. This role also participates in process improvement initiatives and contributes to creating an inclusive work environment, ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of payroll services.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma, with diploma offered by public post-secondary Canadian educational institution preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum of one year directly related working experience, preferably in a unionized environment on an in house ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system.
  • Experience with Unit4 will be an asset.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize and complete high volume of work with accuracy and timeliness (i.e. fast & accurate data entry skills) in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal contacts and external customers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in all matters and ability to remain calm under pressure is essential.

Salary Range

$26.12 per hour (with wage increments to a max of $29.53 per hour). Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement. (BCGEU Pay Grid 9)
