Position Overview

Our Finance Division is looking for a regular full-time Payroll Clerk to join the team. This role involves moderately complex clerical work in the preparation, calculation, and completion of municipal payrolls. Responsibilities include preparing payroll for payment, verifying documentation, recording and processing payroll deductions and remittances, maintaining files and records such as Worker’s Compensation claims, Record of Employment forms, routine reports, and assisting in preparing T4s at year-end. The Payroll Clerk will also handle employee and municipal official inquiries regarding payroll matters and support the Payroll Supervisor as needed.

Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge of payroll preparation methods, practices, and principles, with the ability to interpret applicable laws, rules, regulations, legislation, and collective agreements.
  • Ability to prepare statistical reports, verify accounts, input data, and meet payroll deadlines accurately and timely.
  • Understanding of payroll calculations, record control, and reconciliation, including year-end adjustments.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by related courses, with payroll experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or working towards it is an asset.
  • Experience with computer-based payroll systems such as JD Edwards or SAP, and proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook is preferred.
Additional Details

Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is to per hour (2024 rates).
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week, with a compressed work schedule available.
