Job description

Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikwahp (Driftpile Children’s Lodge)is a community-based and family-oriented organization dedicated to providing care, protection, and well-being for all Driftpile Cree Nation children in a preventative manner, promoting healing for children, families, and the community. A coordinated, holistic, and interdisciplinary approach forms the foundation of the Agency, ensuring that the developmental needs of children, youth, and families are met with respect for their cultural identity, customs, traditions, beliefs, and values.

Job Overview: The Payroll Clerk reports to the Director of Finance and is primarily responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll. The incumbent will ensure staff are paid correctly and maintain payroll records.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Verify staff weekly hours via Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  • Identify and amend any timesheet entries that are outliers.
  • Calculate wages, overtime, and deductions.
  • Process and issue employee paycheques and manual paycheques.
  • Obtain and update staff banking information as needed.
  • Answer staff inquiries as it relates to payroll.
  • Address payroll discrepancies in a timely fashion.
  • Oversee Payroll activities and ensures remittances are done in a timely manner.
  • Issue supporting payroll documents (pay slips, tax forms).
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee information, earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings.
  • Update and maintain employee data in payroll software.
  • Generate payroll reports.

Benefits Administration

  • Calculate and process employee benefit deductions and contributions.
  • Assist with benefit enrolments, changes, and terminations.
  • Complete monthly reconciliation process between payroll and benefits bill.

General

  • Ensuring policies, practices, and procedures comply with professional standards and provincial and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Fully comply with all Chief Kinsoew Awasak Mikiwahp (CKAM) policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate or diploma in payroll, business administration, or accounting is considered an asset.
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) is considered an asset.
  • 1 – 3 years experience in payroll.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of First Nations people, values, and culture.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license, with clean driver abstract.
  • Fluency in Cree is considered an assist.
  • Police Information Check, Intervention Record Check, and Drivers Abstract will be required upon interview.
