Job summary

Kardium Inc. is seeking an experienced payroll & benefits specialist to join our hybrid Burnaby team. You will manage end-to-end payroll for Canada and the US, maintain Dayforce data, and ensure regulatory compliance across regions.

This role supports the accounting function and collaborates with Talent on payroll-impacting changes. With 5+ years in payroll, you will handle quarter- and year-end tasks, assist with inquiries, and help maintain accurate general ledger postings while contributing

Qualifications

• 5+ years payroll & benefits experience in a complex environment.
• Experience with Dayforce HRIS.
• Knowledge of Canada/US payroll regulations and tax requirements.
• Post-secondary education in Accounting or HR.

Responsibilities

• Perform end-to-end payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees in Canada, US, and planned expansion.
• Maintain and audit payroll data in Dayforce, including profiles, pay types, and shift rules.
• Investigate and resolve payroll system issues and integrations.
• Reconcile payroll and benefits to the general ledger with proper cost centers.
• Ensure regulatory payroll compliance across operating regions and tax requirements.
• Assist with quarter-end tasks and year-end tax forms and reporting.
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with Talent to validate changes affecting payroll.
• Support internal and external audits with proper documentation.

As a member of the accounting team, you will be supporting essential accounting and office services including payroll and benefits, compliance reporting, financial reporting, and contributing to team projects.

Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.

Meaningful work you will be a part of

• Responsible for end-to-end payroll processing across salaried and hourly populations, including shift-based workforce (Canada, US, and future international operations) in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
• Maintain and audit payroll data in Dayforce, including employee profiles, pay types, and shift configurations.
• Investigate and resolve payroll issues related to system configuration and integrations.
• Reconcile payroll and benefits and ensure that all related information is accurately recorded in general ledger, with costs assigned to the appropriate accounts and cost centres.
• Ensure compliance with payroll regulations and tax requirements in all operating regions.
• Process quarter‑end accounting tasks, including accrual journal entries, WCB and EHT filings.
• Assist with payroll-related year‑end tasks, including tax forms and reporting.
• Monitor the payroll inbox and respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits in a professional and timely manner.
• Partner closely with Talent team to review and validate employee changes impacting payroll.
• Support audits and maintain proper documentation for compliance purposes.

You will be successful in this role because you possess these attributes:

• 5+ years of payroll & benefits experience in a complex environment, including shift rotations and hourly workforce. Experience in the medical device manufacturing industry is strongly preferred.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage complex, fast‑changing payroll.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize effectively.
• Experience supporting shift‑based or manufacturing environments.
• Understanding of payroll & accounting concepts and best business practices.
• Familiarity with payroll processing across multiple jurisdictions (Canada and US in particular).
• Experience working with sophisticated HRIS systems (Dayforce strongly preferred).
• Knowledge of payroll regulations and tax requirements in Canada and the US.
• Ability to deliver accurate, timely work with strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and payroll software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Payroll certification (e.g., PCP).
• Post‑secondary education in Accounting, HR, or a related field (preferred).

Compensation

Kardium has listed the total cash compensation range (base salary + 5% RRSP contribution) that we expect to pay applicants for this role, as of the time of this posting. Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. For candidates with more or less experience than listed above, the pay range will be adjusted.

As a permanent employee, you will also participate in Kardium’s stock option plan.

• $74,000 - $93,000 (CAD Annually)
