Job summary

Qualifications

  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is a must.
  • Minimum 5 years of payroll management experience, preferably in automotive.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial payroll legislation, tax regulations, and labour standards.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and strong analytical skills.
  • UKG payroll software experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with accounting/bookkeeping software.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for 150+ employees across two dealerships in compliance with national, provincial and local regulations using UKG.
  • Manage multiple payroll cycles (bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly) for both dealerships.
  • Ensure accurate deductions, benefits and payroll-related data; upload data to accounting software.
  • Manage benefit enrollments, terminations and HR documentation (employment letters, agreements).
  • Prepare statutory reports (T4s, ROEs) and reconcile payroll-related accounts with finance.
  • Collaborate with sales, finance and HR to ensure seamless payroll information flow.
  • Provide guidance to staff on payroll matters and assist with OEM tax training.
  • Utilize UKG and DMS systems; stay current with system updates and best practices.

Position Overview

BMW Toronto and MINI Toronto are a leading and dynamic automotive dealership group located in the heart of downtown Toronto. With a commitment to providing exceptional customer service and a diverse range of top-quality vehicles, we are seeking a talented Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join our team and contribute to our continued success.

As the Payroll and Benefits Specialist, you will play a key role in executing the payroll operations and benefits administration for our two dealerships, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role is ideal for an experienced payroll professional with a deep understanding of Canadian payroll regulations and benefits administration with a track record of success in the automotive industry. This position does not have any direct reports and is expected to be onsite during the first few months of on-boarding and then moving to a hybrid setup.

Key Responsibilities
1. Payroll Processing
  • Process payroll for all 150+ employees in compliance with all appropriate national, provincial and local withholding regulations within UKG payroll software
  • Manage accurate and timely processing of multiple payroll cycles including bi-weekly, semi monthly, and monthly schedules for both dealerships
  • Ensure deductions, benefits, and other payroll-related elements are processed accurately.
  • Upload payroll data into accounting software
2. Benefits Administration and HR
  • Manage benefit enrollments and terminations with our benefits providers
  • Assist with employee HR documentation such as employment agreement drafting, letters of employment, and termination letters
  • General filing and document retention
3. Compliance and Reporting
  • Stay abreast of Canadian payroll legislation and ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required statutory reports, including T4s, ROEs, and other relevant documentation.
  • Provide periodic analysis of payroll and disbursement records to ensure that adjustments are in accord with management’s criteria
  • Collaborate with finance and management to reconcile payroll-related accounts and resolve accounting discrepancies.
4. Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate with sales, finance, and other departments to ensure seamless communication and integration of payroll-related information.
  • Provide guidance to other staff members on payroll-related matters and foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Provides on-going assistance to employees in tax-related payroll matters
  • Employee training scheduling for OEM requirements
5. System Management
  • Utilize UKG payroll software to optimize efficiency and accuracy in payroll processing and reporting.
  • Implement best practices in system utilization and stay informed about system updates and improvements.
  • Utilize dealership management software (DMS) to enter payroll data for accounting purposes
