TalentNest On Demand, Markham, Ontario, is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist for our Canadian operations. This full-time hybrid role requires three days in the office and reports to the Canadian controller.

You will manage payroll and benefits processing, ensure compliance with Canadian payroll legislation, and deliver accurate reporting using NetSuite and PowerPay in a dynamic finance team.

Qualifications

  • Holds a relevant educational qualification.
  • Minimum 4–5 years’ experience in a high-volume payroll environment.
  • Experience using Canadian payroll systems (Ceridian/PowerPay).
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation is mandatory.
  • Experience with semi-monthly and year-end payroll filings.
  • Proficiency with Excel and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, enters, processes, pays and reports payroll & benefits data (RRSP) in a digital environment.
  • Audits, reconciles, identifies and follows up on discrepancies with field staff.
  • Educates field staff on resolving entry discrepancies in NetSuite.
  • Produces internal reconciliations, financial reports and journal entries related to payroll and benefits.
  • Liaises with government agencies and vendors.
  • Suggests process improvements where gaps are identified.
  • Performs other duties to support the Finance Team.

Brief Description

We are seeking a Full-time payroll & benefits specialist for our Canadian operations to work within the finance team.

Position Summary

This role is responsible for supporting the finance team fulfilling and improving the payroll and benefits processing, payment and reconciliation/reporting processes for the Canadian Operations. This position reports to the Canadian controller. This is a hybrid position with at least 3 days per week in the office.

Some Key Responsibilities
  • Performs all aspects of collecting, entering, processing, paying and reporting on payroll & benefits data (including RRSP) in a digital environment;
  • Processes, audits, reconciles, identifies and follows up with field staff regarding discrepancies;
  • Educates field staff on how to resolve their entry discrepancies within the NetSuite System;
  • Produces internal reconciliations, financial reports andjournal entries related to payroll and benefits;
  • Liaisons with representatives of government agencies/vendors;
  • Suggests process improvement where gaps are identified
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the Finance Team
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Holds a relevant educational qualification
  • Minimum 4 to 5 years’ experience in a high-volume construction or transportation industry within accounting and payroll;
  • Experience processing a Canadian payroll utilizing the Ceridian/PowerPay system;
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation in Canada is mandatory;
  • Hands on in completing regular semi-monthly and year-end payroll requirements and filings;
  • Experience working in a high-volume accounting function with attention to detail is a must;
  • Knowledge of Oracle NetSuite an asset;
  • Proficient with working on Microsoft suite applications with a high emphasis on excel at the intermediate to advanced level;
  • High level of proficiency with communicating and resolving discrepancies both verbally and in writing, maintaining a professional demeanor;
  • Excellent at managing expectations, shows initiative and can multitask;
  • High-level of interpersonal skills and working in a team environment;
