Job description

McFarlan Rowlands Insurance Brokers offers a complete line of commercial, personal lines, life, disability, employee benefit plans and risk management services through our network of twenty offices across Southwestern Ontario. Responsible for ensuring all employees within the organization are paid in an accurate and timely fashion, ensuring adherence to policy, the Employment Standards Act and other legislation. This position reports to the CFO while working closely with the HR department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer bi-weekly payroll, group benefits, and Group RRSP plans for all employees, ensuring proper authorization and compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Accurately input payroll data and updates, including new hires, leaves of absence, and terminations, as provided by the HR Administrator.
  • Process salary increases, bonuses, and awards in accordance with company policies and directives.
  • Enter and review payroll changes such as commissions, vacation pay, and manual adjustments for accuracy before submission.
  • Manage government reporting requirements, including payroll taxes, garnishments, withholdings, and employee contributions.
  • Address and resolve payroll discrepancies; provide payroll reports to the CEO and COO as needed.
  • Respond to employee and manager inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and RRSP deductions.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records in compliance with Employment Standards and CRA regulations.
  • Complete year-end processes including T4 and T2200 form preparation, ensuring submission before government deadlines.
  • Reconcile Group RRSP summaries and ensure accuracy.
  • Post payroll journal entries and reconcile transactions with the Finance Department; ensure timely submission of RRSP and benefits remittances.
  • Provide departmental salary expenses and commission data for budgeting and reconciliations.
  • Prepare year-end audit working papers and reconciliations related to payroll deductions.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to privacy standards in all interactions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a full-cycle payroll administration role.
  • ADP experience required.
  • Strong attention to detail and solid understanding of payroll record-keeping and bookkeeping principles.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to meet tight deadlines independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range:

From $75,000 per annum
