Job summary

SECURE, based in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Coordinator for a 9–12 month fixed-term contract. You will process semi-monthly payroll, administer benefits, and support lifecycle changes across Canada and the USA, reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Operations Manager.

You will collaborate with HR and business teams to ensure accurate, timely payroll while driving process improvements and delivering excellent service to employees.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of payroll processing experience for hourly and salaried staff.
  • PCP designation or currently pursuing a payroll designation.
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including multi-provincial requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas).
  • Experience with UKG, Kronos, and/or Workday is an asset.
  • Experience with U.S. payroll is an asset.
  • Experience in a mid- to large-sized organization is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet payroll deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate semi-monthly payroll processing for employees, including lifecycle changes and reconciliations.
  • Process terminations, calculate final pay, and submit ROEs promptly.
  • Administer employee benefits and savings programs, including enrollments and changes.
  • Process payroll remittances and deductions (CRA taxes, savings plan contributions).
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including reconciliations and reporting.
  • Provide exceptional customer service for payroll and benefits inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Managers, HR Coordinators, and Administrators to keep data current.
  • Contribute to payroll/benefits improvements and change management initiatives.

Your Opportunity at SECURE

As our Payroll & Benefits Coordinator, you'll play a key role in supporting payroll and benefits operations for employees across Canada and the USA. Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Benefits Operations, you'll ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, administer employee benefits, and support employee lifecycle changes. You'll also collaborate with teams across the business to deliver an exceptional employee experience while driving continuous process improvements.

This role is based out of Calgary, AB.

The Team

Our Payroll & Benefits team is collaborative, customer-focused, and committed to delivering accurate, timely payroll and benefits support to employees across Canada and the USA. We partner closely with teams across the business, continuously look for ways to improve our processes, and support one another in providing exceptional service.

Work Environment

This is a 9–12 month fixed-term contract position working Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with flexibility required to support business needs and payroll processing deadlines.

A Day in The Life
  • Coordinate semi-monthly payroll processing for employees, including employee lifecycle changes, payroll audits, reconciliations, reporting, and payroll data validation.
  • Process employee terminations, prepare final pay calculations, and submit Records of Employment (ROEs) in a timely manner.
  • Administer SECURE's employee benefits and savings programs, including enrollments, lifecycle changes, and benefit extensions.
  • Process payroll and benefit remittances, including savings plan contributions, CRA payroll taxes, and other required deductions.
  • Maintain accurate payroll and benefits records while ensuring the integrity of electronic and paper documentation.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including reconciliations, reporting, T2200s, etc.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to payroll and benefits inquiries and escalating complex issues as required.
  • Partner with Managers, HR Coordinators, and Administrators to maintain accurate employee data and support effective communication across the business.
  • Contribute to payroll and benefits improvements, process improvements, and change management initiatives.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or currently pursuing a payroll designation.
  • Proven knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including multi-provincial and multi-jurisdictional payroll requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
  • Experience using UKG, Kronos, and/or Workday is considered an asset.
  • Experience processing U.S. payroll is considered an asset.
  • Experience administering U.S. employee benefits is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a mid- to large-sized organization is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet payroll deadlines, and handle confidential information.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business.
