At The Root Cellar, the Payroll and People & Culture Assistant is crucial to our organizational success. You will process bi-weekly payroll with precision, ensuring accurate team member compensation and serving as the primary contact for payroll and benefits inquiries.

Your responsibilities include maintaining employee records, administering benefits programs, and supporting HR processes while ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. You'll play a key role in our recruitment efforts and contribute to creating a supportive workplace environment.

What you will be doing :

  • Payroll Administration : Processing bi-weekly payrolls, inputting new hires, making necessary changes, and ensuring accuracy. Collaborate with operations managers to verify timesheets and departmental information, managing any payroll-related issues in coordination with the payroll service provider.
  • Benefits Administration : Overseeing enrollments, terminations, and changes related to employee benefits. Communicating benefit program details and updates to employees and addressing any questions they may have.
  • Occupational Health & Safety Support : Assisting in maintaining compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations, including tracking training, maintaining safety documentation, and supporting health and safety initiatives.
  • Recruitment Support : Helping the HR team with recruitment as required.
  • Administrative Support : Organizing company events, collaborating with the Marketing team on employer branding initiatives, maintaining the HR calendar, managing uniform and supply orders, and reporting.

Who you are, or would like to grow to become :

  • Payroll experience, in an hourly-based environment (retail-based experience would be great).
  • Knowledge of payroll processing software and prior use of an HRIS system. Payworks experience would be amazing!
  • Solid understanding of BC Employment Standards Act, WorkSafe BC regulations, legislative and compliance requirements.
  • A Payroll certification or working towards it would be considered an asset.
  • HR administrative support or other related experience.
