Reporting to Acting Manager, People, Culture & HSE and performs a variety of accounting and administrative duties associated with the preparation and reconciliation of wage and salary payrolls and employee benefits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Processes payroll documents received from People & Culture or cross functional departments and determines the necessary adjustments to gross pay.
  • Processes electronic timesheets on a weekly basis
  • Calculates vacation pay, retroactive pay, sick leave, reimbursements, retiring allowance, in lieu of notice pay and inputs adjustments into payroll system.
  • Updates employee deductions as required.
  • Applies all guidelines and statutes of the Employment Standards Act, the CRA and other relevant government legislation both Federal and Provincial to the organization’s Payroll administration and stays up to date with any changes to said guidelines and/or legislation,
  • Calculates, deducts, and maintains garnishment records.
  • Prepares adjustments to employee records for the preparation of annual T4/T4A's.
  • Benefits and OMERS pension administration
  • Balances employee benefits/deductions according to benefit provider’s invoices.
  • Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all Elexicon’s corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Answers payroll inquiries from employees and supervisors.
  • Provide backup and support to Payroll & Benefits Specialist
  • Other duties as required.
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with benefit administration, payroll, time and attendance systems required, preferably with Ceridian Dayforce experience.
  • Experience with accounting systems and interfaces, preference given to those with Great Plains experience.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Attention to detail and highly accurate with numbers.
  • Experience in basic accounting principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • National Payroll Institute certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP).
  • Possess a post-secondary college diploma.
  • Five years’ experience in payroll and benefits administration preferably in a related industry or business.
  • Experience in basic accounting principles.
