Job description

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, The Payroll / Benefit Clerk is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, and performing various clerical and accounting tasks. The Payroll / Benefit Clerk is a member of the Financial Services team and provides support to other roles within the department as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Certification:
1 Year community college diploma or equivalent in accounting or other related field.
Experience Required:
1 Year minimum of recent payroll related experience.

Key Activities
Responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees, reconciling pay input and employee status changes, data entry, payroll registers, benefits, and various deductions. Ensures all wage changes are made accurately and in time for pay periods. The payroll/benefits clerk is responsible for the accurate processing of sick pay, benefits and vacation payouts. Posts payroll accounting transactions to the Finance System. Transmits electronic funds credit transactions to the banks.
Prepares employee record of employee and submits in a timely manner to Service Canada.
The payroll/benefits clerk is responsible for processing journal entries, responding to employee general inquiries related to payroll.
Reviews and analyzes regular reports and reports discrepancies to the Manager of Financial Services/designate.
