Job summary

FreshBooks is seeking a Director of Payments & Financial Services to lead the Payments business, owning day-to-day operations and delivering P&L impact across the Payments and Financial Services lines of business.

This role requires deep payments expertise, commercial ownership, and executive-level communication to drive cross-functional execution and strategic initiatives like surcharging, pricing, BNPL, and embedded partnerships.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in payments, fintech, embedded finance, or SaaS financial services with demonstrated commercial ownership.
• Deep, hands-on understanding of payments economics including processing, interchange, and pricing.
• Proven experience owning or delivering to a P&L with strong financial acumen.
• Track record leading cross-functional execution across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Support, and Risk.
• Experience managing external partners, processors, or networks (e.g., Stripe, card networks).
• Strong executive communicator and influencer who drives alignment without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Own the payments operating rhythm, KPIs, and delivery in partnership with FP&A and Data & Analytics.
• Lead high-value Payments initiatives (surcharging, repricing, BNPL, embedded finance) and drive execution.
• Own payment operations execution (payouts, reconciliation, processor workflows, automation).
• Manage vendor and network relationships (Stripe, BNPL providers, card networks) and negotiations.
• Drive pricing strategy within guardrails and escalate significant exceptions to leadership.
• Serve as a trusted business partner to leaders across functions and chair leadership forums.
