Job summary

GHD in Mississauga, Ontario is seeking an Intermediate Pavement Consultant to join our GTA team. You will perform pavement and geotechnical investigations, prepare reports, and contribute to project execution under senior engineers.

The role offers a hybrid schedule with three days in‑office and opportunities for growth. Required: degree in pavement/geotechnical/materials engineering, 3+ years in pavement/geotechnical, and familiarity with AASHTO/MEPDG methods; PE license is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pavement, Geotechnical, or Materials Engineering; a post‑graduate degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years in Pavement/Geotechnical field, with Ontario consulting experience preferred.
  • Experience with pavement evaluation, design and asset management.
  • Strong report writing and clear communication skills.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO 1993 and MEPDG methods is an asset.
  • Knowledge of MTO OPSS/OPSD/SPs and municipal standards.
  • Professional Engineer license is an asset; valid G Class Ontario Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Execute project work with oversight by a senior pavement/geotechnical engineer.
  • Develop field work plans for boreholes, coring, and investigations.
  • Conduct pavement condition surveys on various pavement types.
  • Perform pavement/geotechnical investigations including logging and sampling.
  • Process data and design pavements for new, reconstructed, or rehabilitated projects.
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses for diverse project types.
  • Assist in project management, invoicing, and budget monitoring.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out project execution, proposal, and pavement design report / geotechnical investigation report preparation, with oversight and support by a senior pavement / geotechnical engineer
  • Developing field work plans/program for the borehole, coring, test pitting investigation
  • Conducting pavement condition surveys on flexible, rigid, surface treated and gravel pavements
  • Carrying out pavement/geotechnical investigation including borehole and core logging, sampling of asphalt, concrete and subgrade soils, if required
  • Conducting pavement data processing and analysis and pavement designs for new construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, widening, and resurfacing using state‑of‑the‑art strategies
  • Conducting geotechnical engineering assessments and analyses for a range of project types
  • Executing projects to further gain experience in project management, preparing invoices and monitoring budget of projects throughout the duration of the projects
What you will bring to the team
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pavement Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Material Engineering or equivalent
  • Post‑graduate degree in relevant field is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the Pavement/Geotechnical Engineering field, with at least 2 of those years in the consulting industry in Ontario is preferred
  • Experience with, and an interest in pavement evaluation, investigation, design, and asset management
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals, present information, and ideas, and respond to questions in a clear and concise manner is required
  • Experience with AASHTO 1993 and MEPDG methods for designing flexible and rigid pavements would be considered an asset
  • Familiar with pavement related MTO’s OPSS, OPSD, SPs and Municipal standards
  • Maintaining meaningful involvement in professional organizations is strongly encouraged
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access)
  • Professional Engineer License is an asset
  • Valid G Class Ontario Driver’s License
Bonus skills
  • Practical knowledge of statistics, numerical modeling and computational methods for data analysis and quality management is required
  • Project or technical experience with non‑destructive pavement testing including friction testing, Falling Weight Deflectometer and Ground Penetrating Radar
  • Experience in providing pavement designs to the MTO and Municipalities considered a strong asset
  • A high level of proficiency with current pavement/geotechnical design software applications
  • Project management experience and technical expertise with pavement analysis/engineering/design projects, using Municipal standards, MTO, and AASHTO methods
  • Ability and willingness to be mobile and travel for work as needed
  • The salary range for this position is $74,025 - $123,375. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
