Job description

Reporting to the Security Manager, the Patrol Manager is responsible for overseeing all security matters on campus. In collaboration with the Campus Security Services leadership team, the Patrol Manager supervises Security Officers on shift, ensuring high service quality. Key responsibilities include emergency response, incident management, follow-up, and reporting risks and liabilities. The role involves working rotating shifts of two day shifts up to 12 hours, two night shifts up to 12 hours, followed by four days off. The Patrol Manager acts as the first responder after hours for urgent security, facilities, staffing, or scheduling issues, and reviews incident reports for follow-up. Exposure to traumatic incidents and sensitive information is possible. A minimum of an undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g., Conflict Resolution, Social Work, Criminology) and at least four years of relevant professional experience are required, including experience in crisis/emergency response, staff hiring/training/supervision (preferably in a unionized environment), working with young adults (18-24), and knowledge of security regulations at various levels. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. This position requires proven ability to manage critical incidents, good judgment in conflict or crisis situations, high self-awareness, analytical skills, confidentiality, teamwork, leadership, communication, administrative skills, cultural competence, adaptability, and stress management. The candidate must be able to work shift rotations, pass a criminal record check, possess a valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5 or greater), and hold a BC Security Workers License. Assets include proficiency in MS Office, knowledge of collective agreements, security operations and technology, and training in mental health first aid, trauma-informed practice, suicide intervention, violence risk assessment, crisis response, CPTED, and ICS.
