Job description

As a member of our Patient Watch team, you will be responsible for monitoring patients who require additional observation to ensure their safety and well-being. This role is crucial in preventing falls, self-harm, or other incidents. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively to various situations.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Monitor and observe patients continuously to ensure their safety and comfort.
• Report any changes in patient behavior or condition promptly to the healthcare team.
• Assist with patient mobility and positioning as needed.
• Communicate effectively with patients to provide reassurance and support.
• Accurately document observations and activities.
• Collaborate with nursing staff and healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient care.
• Respond quickly to emergency situations or patient needs.
• Address security incidents, including medical emergencies, disturbances, and safety hazards.
• Interact respectfully with patients, visitors, and staff, resolving conflicts and addressing concerns to maintain a peaceful environment.
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage volatile situations and prevent violence.

Requirements

• Valid BC Security Guard License.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse individuals in healthcare settings.
• Previous security experience, preferably in hospitals or healthcare environments.
• Excellent observational and problem-solving skills; ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Basic computer skills for report writing and incident documentation.
• Ability to complete detailed reports, multitask, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Post-secondary education in Police Foundations, Community Justice Services, or Law Enforcement is an asset.
