The Patient Support Assistant is a value-added position provided to support patient flow process by greeting and assisting patients as well as assisting with unit needs. The Patient Support Assistant position requires professionalism, critical thinking and sensitivity as patients, families, and staff navigate this stressful time.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to continually changing priorities and fast pace.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently applying good judgement, and function as a team member.
Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Perform AIDET when interacting with visitors and families (A-Acknowledge, I-Introduce, D-Duration, E-Explanation, T-Thank You).
  • Adhere to RVH’s Code of Conduct and Privacy Pledge.
  • Exhibit professionalism and respect when communicating with patients, community members and staff.
  • Complies with evidence-based practices and standards (including Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe use of equipment and teamwork).
  • Providing wayfinding and other information to visitors and patients.
  • Transport patients.
  • Assist with simple clerical tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned: this may involve performing any basic functions required to support the hospital and unit patient flow.
  • Must be available to work Days and Evenings.
