Job summary

William Osler Health System in Brampton, Ontario, is seeking a Part-Time Pathologist Assistant for multiple Osler sites. This 3-month temporary contract offers hands-on exposure in the Pathology department and opportunities to work with a range of tissue specimens.

Requirements include a Bachelor of Science in Biology and/or a Masters of Pathology with at least two years of related experience, strong anatomy knowledge, and ability to perform dissections, photography, and frozen sections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Biology and/or Masters of Pathology with 2 years related experience.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy.
• Ability to describe, dissect, weigh and photograph tissue specimens.
• Ability to perform frozen sections.
• Assist with autopsies under pathologist supervision.
• Proven ability to work independently or as a team member.
• Familiarity with tissue processing equipment.
• Proficiency in Meditech and Paradigm is an asset.
• Excellent written and oral communication; professionalism.
• Ability to work across Osler sites.

Accountabilities

• Perform a variety of duties required by the Pathology department
• Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Biology and/or Masters of Pathology or equivalent education with a minimum of two years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
• Strong knowledge of anatomy
• Demonstrated skills and ability in examining, describing, dissecting, weighing and photography of small and complex large gross surgical specimens of all tissue types
• Ability to perform frozen sections
• Assist with or perform autopsies under pathologistssupervision
• Proven ability to perform duties independently or as a team member, with high degree of motivation and independent judgment
• Familiarity with equipment and tissue processing
• Demonstrated computer proficiency(Meditech and Paradigm an asset)
• Proven written and oral communication skills
• Proven excellence working in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills and high degree of professionalism
• Demonstrated strong problem‑solving ability
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity and competence
• American Association of Pathology Assistantsregistration an asset
• Required to work at and travel between all Osler sites

Hours: Currently days/evenings including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

Salary:
Minimum: $41.64 per hour
Maximum: $53.34 per hour
