Job description

We are currently seeking a talented and passionate individual to join our culinary team as a full-time Pastry Commis Chef at Nobu Hotel Toronto. In this entry-level role, you will have the opportunity to learn and grow under the guidance of experienced pastry chefs while contributing to the preparation and creation of Nobu's exquisite pastry offerings. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and production of a variety of pastry items, including cakes, tarts, desserts, and breads, under the guidance of senior pastry chefs.
  • Follow Nobu's recipes, standards, and techniques to ensure consistency and quality in all pastry preparations.
  • Handle basic pastry techniques such as mixing, shaping, baking, and decorating with precision and attention to detail.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation in the pastry kitchen area, including workstations, equipment, utensils, and storage areas, in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management, including tracking ingredient usage, restocking supplies, and rotating stock to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
  • Collaborate with other members of the pastry team to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the pastry kitchen.
  • Embrace Nobu's commitment to innovation and creativity in pastry arts, and contribute ideas for new menu items, specials, and promotions.
  • Learn and develop pastry skills and knowledge through training, mentorship, and hands-on experience.
  • Adhering to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a professional kitchen environment.
  • Culinary school diploma or relevant certification preferred.
  • Strong passion for food and cooking/baking.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a high-volume fine dining kitchen environment.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
