Your Culinary Journey:

At Mission Hill Family Estate, our culinary program is dedicated to the sourcing and promotion of local, sustainable, seasonal food. Our Cuisine du Terroir approach lends itself to a light-handed manner of preparation that respects the character of the ingredient and where it is sourced. Our varietal and herb gardens are steps away from our kitchens, and we educate and encourage our team members to explore foraging opportunities that lay at our doorstep.

The Life of our Pastry Chef:

  • Assist and contribute to continuous development of culinary staff whenever necessary
  • Contribute to menus and daily offerings including the restaurants and large private events as well as other required culinary needs
  • Cost menu items and conduct monthly inventory
  • Ensure the pastry kitchen and cooler/freezer is kept in a clean and hygienic state
  • Order and receive ingredients, proper storage and rotation of ingredients
  • Collaborate with other properties to create and produce specialized pastry items tailored to their needs.
  • Demonstrate experience in pastry arts, including breads and plated desserts, with a strong understanding of seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
  • Ability to design and execute innovative pastry menus that complement the winery’s offerings, ensuring high-quality presentation and flavor profiles.
  • Oversee daily pastry production with a hands-on approach, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and adherence to elevated hospitality standards while managing inventory and minimizing waste.
  • Work closely with the culinary team, front-of-house staff, and winery management to align pastry offerings with wine pairings, events, and guest experiences.
  • Maintain the highest levels of cleanliness, organization, and food safety, upholding the winery’s commitment to excellence and sustainability.

Do you have what it takes?

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a senior pastry role
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience, CDP or higher
  • Excellent technical knowledge of contemporary pastry, dessert and baking styles
  • Ability to cost menu items and conduct monthly inventory
  • Current “Food Safe” certification (or equivalent)
  • Flexible scheduling - working days, evenings and weekends required
  • Second language considered an asset

The typical hiring range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000 annually complemented by a bonus plan; the base pay is determined by market location and job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education.
