Job description

Organizational Description: Golden Links Lodge is an 88-bed accredited not-for-profit Personal Care Home in St. Vital, Winnipeg, Manitoba, owned by the Oddfellows and Rebekahs. Our philosophy of care is resident- and family-centred, supported by our core values of compassion, dignity, respect and integrity.

Volunteer Opportunity Details

Volunteer Opportunity ID: 2345

Description of Duties:

  1. The volunteer visits residents, introducing them to the services available for their spiritual care while in the Personal Care Home.
  2. The volunteer confirms denomination and church affiliation, and seeks permission to call the resident's church as necessary.
  3. The volunteer listens to residents and family.
  4. Visits with residents to offer Pastoral Care and ask if resident would like a chaplain to visit with.

Skills Required:

  1. Respect for every person's faith or spiritual beliefs
  2. Maintaining confidentiality
  3. Exhibits a friendly personality
  4. Is patient, flexible and understanding
  5. Able to interact well with others
  6. Able to identify need for referrals to the staff chaplains
  7. Able to make the minimum time commitment of the position
  8. Able to move about the medical center, which may entail standing for extended period of time
  9. Able to work as a team member of the Pastoral Care Department
