We are looking to the Lord for a part-time pastor to work alongside the board and to provide leadership, direction, and vision for the church and to help us fulfill our mission: “To make and nurture disciples of Jesus Christ through fellowship, worship, instruction, and service.” They would need to be in agreement with the Raymore Baptist Church constitution and statement of faith. We would like to be somewhat flexible with their responsibilities to best utilize their gifts and abilities, which would promote longevity in ministry. Most importantly, we are looking for someone in love with Christ and his Word, someone who is committed to following Christ and serving him and his people in a local church context.
Responsibilities
- The pastor shall in every way seek to embody the requirements of an elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9.
- The pastor shall faithfully study the Word of God and set aside time daily to do so.
- The pastor shall passionately preach and teach the Word of God.
- The pastor shall fervently pray for the church and its work and set aside time daily to do so.
- The pastor shall regularly administer the ordinances (believer’s baptism and communion).
- The pastor shall bring spiritual leadership and care both to the church body and to the community at large, as necessary.
- The pastor shall be a witness in the community, in an appropriate capacity.
- The pastor shall officiate at weddings, funerals, child dedications, etc. as directed in policy.
- The pastor shall, along with the deacons, ensure the sick, infirm, and elderly within the congregation are properly cared for.
- The pastor shall lead Bible Study Groups as needed.
- The pastor shall in every way cooperate with the Saskatchewan Baptist Association and the North American Baptist Conference.
- The pastor shall represent the church in the capacity of delegate at conventions, associations, and conferences whenever possible.
- The pastor shall be an ex-officio member of all church committees and boards.
- The pastor shall be accountable to the moderator, or in his absence, the deacons.
- The pastor shall receive a yearly review of his ministry by the church board, annually in the first quarter of the year.
Requirements and Qualifications
The pastor shall:
- Be of mature Christian character who demonstrates love for God and the church.
- Be a humble servant leader as described in John 13, 1 Peter 5:1–4, 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
- Take initiative and be able to operate independently when necessary.
- Possess good communication and interpersonal relational skills.
- Connect and communicate with all generations.
- Preferred education: Bachelor’s degree in theology, Christian ministry, or related field experience (the equivalency of these degrees in ministry experience would also be considered).
Communicating
The pastor shall:
- Preach challenging and stimulating sermons that are biblically based on sound doctrine (approximately two times a month).
- Teach and train volunteer leaders.
- Encourage the congregation in personal evangelism.
- Encourage the congregation in ministering to the needs of the church family and those in the community.
Administering
The pastor shall:
- Spend approximately 12 hours per week at the church office and the balance of hours doing sermon preparation, visitation, Bible studies, etc.
- Maintain church records with regards to baptisms, membership, membership transfers (both in and out of our church).
Leading
The pastor shall:
- Oversee the spiritual care and biblical instruction of the church.
- Model a life of discipleship and outreach.
- Work with the board to provide leadership direction, vision and mission for the ministry.
- Lead and organize services (i.e., Sunday morning worship services; special services; ministry at the Special Care Home, Lodge and Manor; communion services; baptisms; baby dedications; etc.).
- Oversee care groups, worship teams, prayer ministries, and Bible study groups, as well as baptism and membership classes.
- Participate in the community ministerial.
The pastor shall:
- Be available to shepherd people with spiritual needs.
- Provide spiritual care for the sick, shut-ins, and seniors.
- Perform funerals and weddings and provide premarital counseling for couples as they prepare for marriage.
