Job Description: Surveying Technician
This position requires a candidate with a college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 to 2 years, specializing in surveying technology or surveying.
Work Environment
- Rural areas and various locations
- Private sector land surveying establishments
- Willingness to relocate
Responsibilities
- Prepare data and documents related to real property boundary surveys
- Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirements
- Plan, direct, supervise, or conduct surveys to establish legal property boundaries
- Record measurements and survey data accurately
- Provide consultation on legal survey matters
- Manage and display geographic data using GIS and CAD software
- Use electronic distance measuring equipment for precise location determination
- Survey and layout subdivisions for rural and urban development
Supervision
Supervise 1 to 2 team members
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Word, and CAD software
Field Skills
- Operate total stations, GPS, and navigation equipment
- Experience with construction, geodetic, land development, severances, subdivisions, and topographic surveys
Safety and Security
- Criminal record check required
Transportation and Travel
- Valid driver's license
- Willingness to travel; public transportation may not be available
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Fast-paced environment, working under pressure
- Physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, handling heavy loads
Tools and Equipment
Own tools/equipment are required.
