Job summary

BGC Okanagan is hiring a part-time Community Support Worker to plan, implement, and evaluate group programs for children and youth with diverse abilities at Vernon Main Club, BC.

You will support participants in building daily living and social skills, coordinate with families, transport participants between sites, and help maintain records. The position offers a 25.95 per hour rate, 25 hours per week, and a welcoming, inclusive team.

Qualifications

• Diploma in a related human/social service field.
• One (1) year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Class 4 driver’s licence or willingness to obtain as soon as possible.
• Successful completion of Agency screening process including criminal record check.

Responsibilities

• Participate in assessing, goal setting, and planning support programs for individuals with diverse needs, including developing and implementing Support Plans.
• Assess participants’ needs and develop short-term plans in collaboration with families.
• Support participants in working towards independence in the community by assisting with daily life skills, social skills, and behavior management; teach activities such as personal hygiene, basic cooking, money management, shopping, and household safety; facilitate activities.
• Assist with the intake process to ensure assessment, program registration, and all documentation is completed prior to services.
• Identify and manage potential emergency situations, including aggressive behavior, to minimize harm; report concerns to supervisors.
• Administer medication according to policy and ensure health and safety standards are maintained.
• Provide ongoing feedback and support to participants and their families.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of participant activities and progress, including daily notes, progress reports, and transition reports.
• Transport participants from school sites to club sites, or on field trips.
