JOB DESCRIPTION: PART-TIME YOUTH DIRECTOR Kitsilano Christian Community, 1708 W. 16th Ave, Vancouver, BC Kitsilano Christian Community (KCC) is a Baptist church affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC) and the Canadian Association for Baptist Freedoms (CABF). We are seeking an enthusiastic part-time Youth Director to minister to the youth and pre-teens in our congregation. About our youth: currently, our community hosts a small but committed group of teens for Friday night events, ranging in age from grade six to grade twelve. The kids who attend KCC as their home church often bring unchurched friends from school to these events. Our new Youth Director would be able to genuinely connect with both, discipling the youth who are already committed to Jesus, and engaging creatively with new youth from the community. The Youth Director for KCC must be committed to Jesus Christ and to ministry with pre-teens and youth, ages 10 – 18, and their families. They will develop supportive and authentic relationships with the youth, form and nurture spiritual life, and create an inviting community among the youth. The Youth Director teaches Bible basics, the core tenets of the Christian faith, and prayer, in age-appropriate language and style. They possess excellent interpersonal skills and with collaborative oversight will shepherd families and church volunteers. Responsibilities: The Youth Director’s key responsibilities include:

  • Leading Sunday School for the youth three Sundays per month at KCC (On the second Sunday of the month, youth stay in the service for Communion, or have the opportunity to help in the nursery or children’s Sunday school class.)
  • Organizing Friday evening youth and pre-teen events (four per month)
  • Working with the lead pastor at KCC to develop a strategy for youth outreach in our neighbourhood
  • When needed, coordinating volunteers to assist in youth/pre-teen events
  • Providing pastoral support to the youth
  • Working with church staff, youth, and families to help connect youth to the larger church community
  • Attending Church Council meetings as required by the Lead Pastor of KCC
  • Preparing and managing budgets for the youth ministries at KCC for each calendar year.

  • Experience, either voluntary or professional, working with youth
  • Well-versed in the Bible
  • Basic understanding of baptism, communion, and other aspects of church life and service
  • Agreement with the KCC Statement of Faith and Welcoming Statement
  • Takes initiative and can manage time well

  • Commitment to ongoing learning in the intersection of Christian faith, Canadian culture, and youth development
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development and self-care in community

Supervision/Reporting: The Youth Director reports functionally to the Lead Pastor of KCC in relation to the carrying out of the tasks noted above. The Youth Director is accountable to the KCC Council through the Lead Pastor. Terms: This position is 10 hours per week and the hourly wage is $25.
