Job Responsibilities
- Participate in assessing, setting goals for, and evaluating the progress of persons served.
- Teach persons served to relate in a socially appropriate manner through daily routines and activities.
- Monitor persons served to ensure their safety and well-being, utilizing practices that promote health, welfare, safety, and security.
- Provide behaviour management counseling on a one-to-one and/or group basis, including providing feedback on client behaviour, teaching coping techniques, and offering guidance and support.
- Offer emotional support and crisis intervention, which may include nonviolent physical interventions.
- Maintain communication and liaison with the program, school, family, and community.
- Meet the physical needs of persons served by assisting with basic personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
- Administer medications following established guidelines and procedures.
- Maintain reports such as statistics, logbooks, and daily activity records related to persons served.
- Perform household duties, including meal preparation and cleaning.
- Accompany persons served to appointments and community outings.
- Participate in the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee as required.
- Operate motor vehicles safely and legally during transportation of persons served or for Taproot business.
- Advocate effectively for persons served.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
Candidate Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
- Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma OR a related degree or diploma in humanities, social work, or similar fields. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience:
- At least two years of recent relevant experience in child and youth care, emergency shelter, or related fields.
- Experience with trauma-informed practices.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, a clean driver’s abstract, and a reliable, insured vehicle.
Additional Requirements
- Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation).
- Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention (NVCI), MANDT, or Conflict Resolution Certificates (or ability to obtain within probation).
- Experience in implementing behavioural interventions and trauma-informed practices.
- Participation in MCFD screening prior to employment.
