Buffalo Trail Public Schools is pleased to offer a part-time probationary teaching opportunity at Hughenden Public School in Hughenden, Alberta, for the 2025–2026 school year. This assignment includes teaching CTS Foods and Art to students in Grades 7–12. We are seeking a student-focused educator who brings creativity, flexibility, and a passion for hands-on learning to a supportive and inclusive school community. Specific Position Duties
- Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in CTS Foods and/or Art, aligned with the Alberta curriculum
- Foster student creativity and critical thinking through project-based and experiential learning
- Modify lessons and assessments to support diverse academic, emotional, and developmental needs
- Create a safe, inclusive classroom that promotes student voice and confidence
Qualifications And General Duties
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Demonstrates a student-centered philosophy committed to maximizing learning in a safe and caring environment
- Proficiency with Google Suite and educational tools for communication and planning
- Experience and/or training in Assessment for Learning, including formative and summative assessment strategies
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and foster a sense of belonging
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and reflective practice aligned with the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard
- A willingness to contribute to the school’s extracurricular programs is considered an asset
Hughenden Public School (HPS) serves as a central educational hub for students in Grades 4–12 from the communities of Metiskow, Czar, Amisk, Hardisty, and Hughenden. The school is committed to fostering a culture of mutual respect and lifelong learning, encapsulated in its mantra: “Proud to Achieve, Wildcats Succeed!”
HPS offers a diverse curriculum that includes core academic subjects and specialized programs. Students have access to Career and Technology Studies (CTS) courses such as industrial arts and home economics. The school also provides opportunities for dual credit programs and the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) in collaboration with Lakeland College and Buffalo Trail Public Schools.
The
Village of Hughenden offers a general store, bank, library, post office and daycare center. For recreational facilities, there is a golf course, arena, and bowling alley. It's a short commute to the villages of Czar and Amisk which offer other recreational activities such as ball diamonds, curling in the winter and water sports in the summer at Shorncliffe Lake (Czar). For optimal amenities, the Town of Wainwright is a short 30-minute drive away.
