Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

We are looking for up to eight (8) part‑time instructors for ~40 hours each over the winter term.
Integrating knowledge and skills from the previous and current terms, in OCCU 5019 Fieldwork 1 students practice applying theory, frames of reference, occupational analysis and assessment, and clinical reasoning through implementation of a practice process involving human interactions. Through direct application in various mediums and contexts, students will enhance their ability to engage in therapeutic encounters with supervision and feedback from preceptors (licensed occupational therapists). Students will demonstrate skills and professional behaviour for safe and respectful practice. Students will use the fieldwork evaluation tool(s) used nationally in occupational therapy to engage in critical analyses of their own progress.
Under the guidance of the Course Professor, each part‑time instructor will tutor and evaluate groups of students using simulation-based learning in Occupational Therapy Skills Labs. Tutors and student teams will schedule their weekly virtual meetings independently at a mutually agreeable time. Case review, tutor meetings, marking and/or office hours may also be required. As time permits, other duties may be required to assist with lab preparation and/or delivery. Instructors will be required to attend virtual orientation sessions prior to the academic term (to be scheduled).

Some positions will involve providing in‑person support at the Halifax Carleton Campus on select Tuesday and Thursday evenings (4‑6pm) throughout the term.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
  • An entry‑to‑practice qualification in occupational therapy and current registration (in any province) as a licensed occupational therapist are required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and scheduling flexibility.
  • Technological access to Microsoft TEAMS for videoconferencing and the ability to view video files is required.

The School of Occupational Therapy welcomes applicants with a range of experience; from those with extensive experience as preceptors for occupational therapy students to those who are newer to student supervision and interested in developing their skills in debriefing, coaching, and providing constructive feedback.
