Qualifications

  • Experience with non-profit and taxation rules for charities are strong assets.

It Gets Better Canada (IGBC)is looking for an enthusiastic candidate to support our charity’s growth and ongoing operations.

We are looking for someone who loves supporting the growth of others, has a knack for bookkeeping and financial reporting, logistics, and administrative work and wants to make a positive difference for Canada’s 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, with support from the Treasurer of the Board of Directors, the Finance and AdministrationOfficer will provide crucial support for both financial and administrative functions at It Gets Better Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain books of account, including accounts receivable and payable, in compliance with reporting requirements of funders and tax authorities
  • Process payroll (including group health plan), invoices and expenses
  • With Executive Director oversight, create and manage budgets and monitor expenditures
  • Verify eligibility for, issue, and keep detailed records of, all charitable receipts when required
  • Ensure proper tracking of expenditures against funding program budgets (cost reports)
  • Prepare financial reports and forecasts
  • Reconcile transactions with bank statements
  • Complete and submit semi-annual PSB Rebate claims
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the

organization’s books of account (e.g. changes through CRA)

  • Assist with audit process, including preparation of year-end working papers

Administration:

  • Manage staff vacation and holiday tracking
  • Provide end of year statements to staff
  • Manage annual staff performance scheduling
  • Research and facilitate board and staff training/professional development opportunities

Other Duties:

  • Exert care and control over organization’s records and provide technical

support (including software updates, trouble-shooting and back-ups)

  • Draft and assign contractor agreements (based off of provided templates)
  • Participate in team and organizational meetings and committees, as needed; and
  • Other duties assigned

Skills

  • 1-2 years of bookkeeping or accounting related experience preferred
  • Understanding of accounting fundamentals - income statement, balance sheet, trial balance, etc.
  • Understanding of the the 2SLGBTQ+ Canadian landscape
  • Understanding of Canadian charitable CRA regulations
  • Knowledge of Ontario Employment Standards Act requirements for payroll purposes
  • Extensive knowledge of QuickBooks Online, Ceridian Power Pay
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office software with an emphasis on Excel
  • Experience with Google Workspace - Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.
  • Experience with DocuSign
  • Proven ability to work to ongoing monthly deadlines
  • Experience with non-profit and taxation rules for charities are strong assets
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Structured problem solving and strategic thinking
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to working with all those around you, including young people in our network, coworkers, and other stakeholders

Position Type: Part Time 15-20 hours per week
