Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Performs general cleaning duties inside Engineering Department:
  • Cleaning & disinfecting high-touch areas such as counters, doorknobs or handles, light switches, etc.
  • Cleaning & disinfecting washrooms including public washroom, refills soap and paper towel dispensers.
  • Sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Vacuuming carpeted areas.
  • Dusting throughout building.
  • Washing windows/glass.
  • Collecting and taking out garbage and recycling.
  • Notifying Supervisor of low stock items for supply orders.
  • Arming building at the end of a shift.
  1. Performs maintenance duties in and around Engineering Department as requested:
  • Picking up loose garbage outside the buildings.
  • Shoveling snow from the surrounding sidewalks, ramps and doorways.
  • Performing other odd jobs such as by not inclusive:
  • Changing light bulbs.
  • Touching up paint as required.
  • Identifying unsafe conditions and making corrections or notifying appropriate person on more serious issues.
  • Moving & installing furniture when required.
  • Keeping Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) up to date and available for all chemicals used, handled or stored.
  1. Works with minimal supervision.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • Grade 10 or equivalent and/or relevant experience would be considered.

Working Conditions:
  • Usual custodial conditions including working with cleaning chemicals
  • This position requires standing, walking, and performing physical tasks for extended periods of time including heavy lifting and climbing ladders

  • Must be available to work evening hours after 4:30 p.m.
  • Hours of work will not exceed forty-eight (48) hours in a two-week period in accordance with the C.U.P.E., Local 1146 – Inside Part-time Unit collective agreement.
