Job description

POSITION: Part-Time Accountant (On-Site)

  • Compensation: $25.00 - $30.00/hour
  • Schedule: 5 hours per month, on-site, once per month

We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced accountant to support monthly financial operations and provide strategic insight into corporate tax planning. This role involves one consistent on-site visit per month (5 hours total). The accountant should also be available for occasional phone consultations on other days with prior notice. The focus is on maintaining financial hygiene, improving reporting systems, and preparing for tax efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and general ledgers
  • Categorize and reconcile all transactions (QuickBooks or equivalent)
  • Generate and maintain a consistent balance sheet and basic financial statements
  • Assist with corporate tax preparation and timely filing
  • Review current expense structure and suggest tax optimization strategies
  • Provide guidance on best practices for record-keeping and audit readiness
  • Consult on classification of income and expenses for maximum efficiency
  • Coordinate with external tax filing professionals
  • Identify financial inefficiencies and propose process improvements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience with small business or corporate accounting
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and/or other accounting platforms
  • Familiarity with Canadian corporate tax filings and compliance
  • Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and offer strategic insights
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain finance in plain language
  • Bonus: Familiarity with AI/tech/startup financial models or early-stage businesses

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous work with tech or healthcare startups
  • Ability to track multi-source income and varying expense models
  • Comfort working with minimal supervision in a fast-moving environment
  • High competency in structuring balance sheets and P&L with limited data inputs
  • Knowledge of CRA reporting guidelines and tax-reduction opportunities
