The position reports to the Chair of the department and works under the supervision of the EIA Course Professor and EIA Certificate Coordinator. The EIA course is the capstone course of the EIA Certificate and is a training course in how to conduct EIAs and SEAs (Strategic Environmental Assessments of a policy). PTA teaching duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Design, lead, and mark 5 synchronous tutorials for multiple groups of students.
  • Design tests and assignments.
  • Maintain a Brightspace Discussion Board to answer questions about tutorials.
  • Supervise the class markers.
  • Prepare three lectures on Present and Evolving EIA-SEA Federal Policy, Indigenous Peoples Participation, and comparison of Federal-Provincial roles/responsibilities.
  • Manage the class web site.
  • Assist with class administration as needed by the Professor including overseeing Academic Integrity cases.
  • Produce a term-end list of recommendations for improving the class for next year.

The EIA Certificate, the most popular in the Faculty of Science, is planning to be available to a wider group of applicants including non-degree students. This position will work with the coordinator to build a comprehensive and phased plan to both increase EIA Certificate availability and to improve existing requirements. This work can include an online study of other similar EIA programs, curriculum development, consultations, designing an administrative-business plan and liaison with Faculty personnel as necessary.
