PARKS SERVICES WORKER I

(Temporary, Full-Time)

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Parks department is accepting applications for a temporary full-time Parks Services Worker I. In this position you will focus on irrigation maintenance, repair and installation. Additional duties will include simple electrical, plumbing, and mechanical tasks related to the operation and maintenance of parks and Municipal Facilities.

Reporting to the Parks Maintenance Manager, assignments for this position will vary, but may include:

  • Installing and maintaining a number of water and irrigation systems,
  • Repairing valves, pipes, drains and general plumbing fixtures located in Municipal facilities,
  • Repairing and maintaining drainage infrastructure,
  • Parks lighting maintenance,
  • Utilizing asset management software (Maintenance Connection),
  • Performing other duties as operationally required such as park construction; sign and trails maintenance; maintaining playgrounds, sports fields, and grass areas; cemetery duties; garbage removal.

The preferred candidates will possess a high level of experience with irrigation systems, a general knowledge in the use of a variety of hand and power tools and other equipment; as well as good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude; the ability to establish good working relationships with other employees, the public and external sources; and the ability to carry out assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision.

The successful candidates will have completed Grade 12; technical courses related to maintenance and installation of irrigation systems, plumbing and electrical work; considerable experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience; and experience in all aspects of Parks Operations. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.

This position is expected to be required from spring through fall 2025 but the length of this assignment will be dependent upon operational requirements.

The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable criminal record check.

Position Status:
Union (WVMEA) – Temporary, Full-Time

Hours of Work:
40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Rate of Pay:
$36.43 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits
