POSITION SUMMARY:
  • Responsible for the onsite operations of arenas, parks, park facilities, beaches, public washrooms, playgrounds, sports fields, flowerbeds, etc. within the Municipality of Central Elgin.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains the arena ice surface in good useable condition with a regular program of cleaning, re-surfacing and ice maintenance.
  • Maintains the recreation buildings in clean, safe and attractive condition - perform cleaning and minor repairs to all recreation facilities.
  • Performs maintenance and beatification duties on municipal properties (i.e. Port Stanley Beach, Port Stanley and Belmont downtown, parks).
  • Set up Green House for spring planting.
  • Receives rental payments from users of recreation facilities and assists with the booking of these facilities.
  • Collects money for Ice Programming such as Public Skating and regular programming.
  • Set up and tear down of events throughout recreational facilities and ensure that users are accommodated and that requested equipment, and furniture is provided.
  • Maintains accessibility to users during events; provides assistance when required.
  • Follows all health and safety practices and procedures. Reports unsafe conditions or work to supervisor.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One to two years of experience preferred.
  • G2 driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is an asset.
  • Horticulture Technician Diploma, considered an asset
  • Certified ice technician designation through the ORFA considered an asset
  • Must have a history of good attendance and reliability.
  • Follows all safety rules and maintains a strong safety record.
  • Completes work to meet the required quality standards.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Must be able to read and write and keep accurate records, understand and be able to respond to both verbal and written instructions.
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team, able to accept direction and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  • Responsible for effectively communicating with team members, supervisors, and the public, using oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Interact with the public and coworkers in a professional and respectful manner, using good judgment and staying calm in stressful situations.

PHYSICAL SKILL AND EFFORT REQUIREMENTS
  • The ability to walk or stand for long periods of time.
  • Lifting, carrying, or moving heavy objects (typically 25–50 lbs or more).
  • Climbing, bending, or kneeling frequently.
  • Tolerating outdoor conditions and varying weather such as but not limited to snow, rain, heat, smog, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and rugged terrain.
  • Will be required to work varied hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
