Job summary

A regional public services organization is seeking a Parks Labourer (Relief) to join their team in Kelowna. In this role, you will maintain park cleanliness and safety, interact positively with the public, and assist with various park maintenance projects. This position requires strong physical stamina, communication skills, and a valid BC Driver's Licence. The salary is $29.07 per hour and it's on an on-call basis.

Job description

Do you have a general understanding of park and landscape maintenance techniques? Do you have strong time management, organizational, and public relation skills?

If so, we want you on our Parks Services Team!

As the successful candidate for the Parks Labourer (Relief) position, you will be responsible for setting the level of service for the general public by assisting in providing a safe, clean park area for recreation and leisure enjoyment. This role involves primary interaction with the public and requires a friendly, helpful demeanor and an interest in working in a parks environment to help achieve departmental goals.

You Will
  • Perform daily park maintenance tasks such as collecting garbage, recycling, and litter.
  • Clean washrooms, facilities, and infrastructure.
  • Assist with minor facility and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Complete inspection and maintenance reports.
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors.
  • Support ongoing trail maintenance and construction projects.
  • Participate in natural area management and horticultural activities.
  • Assist with in-house constructed capital projects and general park operations.
  • Help deliver the park’s risk management program.
  • Contribute to the strategic delivery of Parks Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

To succeed, you should have completed grade 12 (or equivalent), hold a valid BC Driver's Licence, and possess a good understanding of park and landscape maintenance techniques. Physical strength and stamina for manual outdoor work in various weather conditions are necessary, along with comfort working independently. Experience with small tools and equipment, facility and infrastructure maintenance, and safe operation of ATVs, lawn equipment, and tractors is required. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, along with being a team player, are essential.
