Job summary

City of Burnaby invites applications for a Parks Janitor in the Facilities Management Custodial Mobile unit. This role performs light manual cleaning and related building care for parks facilities and recreation centres, with duties during scheduled events and routine maintenance tasks.

The position is regular full time, 40 hours weekly, Tuesday to Saturday nights (11:00 PM–7:00 AM). A high school education with related custodial experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent with related experience in janitorial/custodial work.
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of facility operations regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to perform light manual work and use a variety of tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine attendant tasks during scheduled events at municipal recreation centres or parks buildings.
  • Carry out repetitive cleaning, minor maintenance and building service tasks.
  • Work under general supervision with adherence to instructions and standards.

Salary: $29.25 – 30.39 – 31.58 – 32.88 – 34.25/hour

Schedule: 40 hours weekly; Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM

This position works in the Facilities Management Custodial Mobile organizational unit. This is light manual work in the cleaning and care of various Park’s buildings and premises. An employee of this class carries out routine attendant tasks in rendering assistance and services to patrons during scheduled events in an around municipal recreation centres or other Park’s buildings, as well as performing a variety of repetitive cleaning, minor maintenance and/or building service tasks. Work is performed under general supervision and evaluated on the basis of adherence to instructions and work standards. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation with some related experience in janitorial or custodial work or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Sound knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial care and maintenance of buildings. Working knowledge of the general regulations and procedures governing facility operations. Ability to perform light manual work. Skill in the use of a variety of tools used in the work. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia (some positions) is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.

Clause 6 Application of Seniority: Appointments to regular full time, temporary full time, regular part time and temporary part time positions shall be determined by seniority as defined by the greatest length of service in the specific posted job. These appointments shall be subject to the successful passing of the skill test(s) applicable to the classification, that they are not currently subject to a performance management plan, and have no discipline or recorded safety infractions in the previous eighteen (18) months. First consideration will be given to internal applicants (Clause 6 Application) and then open to external applicants.
