Job summary

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority is seeking seasonal Security and Park Maintenance staff for the Durham Conservation Area. Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) invites applications for four seasonal positions of Security and Park Maintenance at both Durham Conservation Area and Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area.

Summary of Functions
Security and park maintenance positions report to Park Superintendent and assist with the daily maintenance of the Conservation Area, and the enforcement of SVCA policies and regulations. This position provides great experience for reference on future applications to law enforcement positions.

Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in post-secondary education in policing or security related discipline
• Possess or be willing to obtain Private Security and Investigative Services Act License
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification
• Familiarity with Saugeen Conservation as well as the Conservation Authorities Act, R.R.O. 1990, O.Reg. 688/21
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to keep accurate records
• Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
• Must have valid Ontario Driver’s License (minimum G2)
• Ability to perform manual labour outdoors
• Some experience with grounds maintenance and operation of power equipment such as lawn mower, is beneficial

Duties and Responsibilities
• Enforce applicable Conservation Area rules and regulations
• Respond to complaints and provide effective and courteous customer service
• Operate gate house and reservation system when required
• Assist with day-to-day operational duties such as cleaning washrooms, grass cutting, fleet vehicle cleaning
• Keep Park Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents up to date on issues and complaints
• Abide by all SVCA policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety and use all required PPE
• Must be available to work weekends, nights and holidays

Work Environment and Conditions
All successful applicants must possess their own Green Patch CSA approved safety boots, be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be available to work the duration of the season. Some heavy lifting is required. Saugeen Conservation will provide uniform shirts.

Training
SVCA offers comprehensive health and safety training including on the job training for the operation of grounds maintenance equipment, WHIMIS, First Aid, Health and Safety Training.

Location
• Either Durham Conservation Area or Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area
Work Period
• May to Labour Day 2025, with potential shifts from late April through October
• 40 hours per week, with availability on weekends, nights and holidays
Wage
• $18.50 per hour
